Residential power

A residential solar power system utilizes solar panels, comprised of photovoltaic modules, to convert sunlight into DC power. The sunlight is converted by the silicon cells of which the modules are made. The DC power is then converted into AC power via an inverter. In this way the electricity gained from the sun is capable of being used within your home.

It is a common misconception to believe that residential solar power options are used to completely replace other powering options. Generally the solar power is simply used to reduce electrical needs. The system does not need to provide much electricity to significantly decrease your electricity bill and reward both you and the environment.

It is possible that your residential solar power system may produce more electricity than your home is using during the day. If this happens it may be possible to have your utility accounted credited for the amount of power you are providing back to the grid. Systems are also available with a battery back-up. These batteries charge during the day and store an amount of electricity to be used during the night.
